Artist – How to be a part of the festival

Open Call for Copenhagen Light Festival

Open Call opens March 15 and the deadline for submissions is May 15 at 23.59 danish time.

If you have a light piece, a light installation or a light experience that you want to be a part of Copenhagen Light Festival, you can submit it to our Open Call.

Together, we want to enrich the streets of Copenhagen with artistic initiatives and shining experiences, which will temporarily transform the architecture, squares, back alleys and secret places of the city in both unique and spectacular ways.

Your work will become a part of Copenhagen Light Festival’s official programme, featured in Danish and international media and shown to the citizens of Copenhagen and visitors from Denmark and abroad.

What kinds of works are we looking for?

A light installation could be a separate illuminated object outside, or it could be light sources illuminating an existing building or square. A light installation can also be a light-based interaction or a projection that changes the surroundings. All pieces must be viewable from a distance and give the observer a clear and impactful experience. It is especially important to control the light intensity and scale carefully, so the audience will get the full impact of the experience. Please take into consideration that the February weather in Copenhagen may be cold and rainy. Consequently, the light installations must not only be aesthetically interesting, but also be able to resist rain, frost, strong winds and curious audience members.

Artwork locations

The festival’s central area is located in inner Copenhagen. There we focus on creating experiences and flow in the urban spaces around the harbor, along Frederiksholms Kanal and “Kulturaksen” (from the Glyptotek to St. Nicholas Church).
At the same time, we want to develop “satellites” in the bridge districts and urban development areas.
See the map below for the central area – and dive into maps from former years, to see other areas of Copenhagen that has been on display, here.
