Keep up good spirit

Keep up good spirit

By: Nina Wengel

This light installation was first displayed above Amagerbrogade in 2013 as a source of encouragement during the dark winter months. It was presented under the organizational name “Good Work Productions,” a pseudonym for the artist and her then-collaborators.

Since its debut, Good Work Productions has loaned the sign for free to those in need of its uplifting message. It has been featured in locations such as Nansensgade, Roskilde Festival, SuperDeluxe in Tokyo, and the Danish Jazz Awards.

The phrase Keep up good spirit was intentionally chosen over the more common but less poetic keep up the good spirit to allow for dual interpretations, including “keep up” or “continue, good spirit.”

The Artist

Nina Wengel, a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, has exhibited both nationally and internationally in cities such as Tokyo, Hamburg, and New York. Working across various media, though primarily in painting, she aims to create works that resonate universally across time and place. She incorporates symbols like suns, moons, mountains, and everyday objects such as chairs, tables, and lamps to achieve this.

Under the name GOOD WORK Productions, she also creates performative healing events. GOOD WORK Productions is a self-invented organization that develops projects, mainly in public spaces, aiming to positively influence the artist herself, society, and the universe through art.

The venue

Located in a former tram depot between the lakes and the charming Nansensgade district, Kulturhuset Indre By offers sports courts, meeting rooms, and cultural events focused on sustainability, movement, and community building.
