Kastanjelys

The Artwork
For Copenhagen Light Festival 2025, OPTILOS, in collaboration with Villette, presents Kastanjelys—an atmospheric tribute to the majestic chestnut tree in the historic courtyard at Fælledvej 12, Nørrebro. From a golden base, Kastanjelys celebrates the tree’s calm and timeless presence as a steadfast anchor in a constantly changing city.
The installation features warm, golden light that accentuates the tree’s natural structures and creates a mesmerizing interplay of shadows in the courtyard. The soothing warmth of the light underscores the tree’s unwavering roots and its role as a stabilizing force amidst the city’s bustling rhythm.
A key aspect of the experience is an organic sound installation, where the wind produces subtle tones as it moves through the courtyard’s trees. These natural sounds harmonize with the warm light, creating a sensory experience. The wind chime’s melody symbolizes the tree’s ongoing dialogue with its surroundings—a quiet conversation between nature and the city.
Kastanjelys invites visitors to slow down and embrace a sense of peace and reflection amidst the city’s hustle. The installation highlights the tree’s beauty and symbolic role as an anchor in urban life, reminding us to value the calm and constant elements that bring stability and balance to our daily lives.
