A Waste of Light

A Waste of Light

By: Martin Højer von Friis // Galleri Libertineren

With “A Waste of Light,” I aim to shine a light on the hidden stories behind our consumption. This artwork unites old, discarded appliances – refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines – in a new context, where they are reborn as art.

By stacking and illuminating these objects, I reveal how even what has been cast aside can carry unexpected beauty and meaning. In an era defined by overconsumption and waste, I invite reflection on our use of resources. What does it mean to throw something away? And how can we rediscover value in what we deem useless?

The light emanating from within the installation symbolizes hope and transformation – a reminder that there is always potential to create something new and meaningful from the old. Through this piece, I encourage viewers to see waste through fresh eyes and to be inspired to think sustainably.
